Herman Cain may surprise us in the long run

It’s no secret that most African-Americans have an allegiance to the Democrat Party.

Herman Cain’s bid to become the first African-American to snare the Republican nomination for president just got a little bolder.

While many Black media outlets have castigated Cain for the audacity of being a Republican, that sentiment is not being felt in many quarters of the GOP, and especially the Tea Party faction.

Last week, Cain came in first in a Florida straw poll that pitted him against other Republican contenders, to include former Gov. Mitt Romney and Texas Governor Rick Perry.

It seems that many White conservatives like what they are hearing from Cain.

The Atlanta-based former CEO of Godfather’s Pizza is making serious waves as he talks about revamping this nation’s tax codes by implementing what he calls a “9-9-9” plan.  To simplify it, Cain wants a 9 percent federal income tax across the board, a 9 percent tax on corporations and a 9 percent national sales tax.

While it’s doubtful that the IRS is going to go away anytime soon, Cain’s call for action is resonating with many.

Many Republican voters see Cain as a blend of Romney and Perry all rolled into one.

To a lot of folks that is very appealing.

It’s no secret that most African-Americans have an allegiance to the Democrat Party.

With that said, we need not be closed minded when it comes to Herman Cain. The name calling by many in our ranks is deplorable.

After all, this is America where we are free to choose our party affiliations.
