Over the past three weekends we’ve seen countless homicides and even more gunshot wounds.
Twenty-year-old Kenneth Smith of Euclid is dead and several other Greater Cleveland area men are feeling a lot of pain all because of gunshot wounds inflicted around bars over the weekend.
Smith, according to police reports, decided he didn’t have to comply with a lawful police order to exit a vehicle that shots had been fired from.
That misstep in judgment cost him his life when an off-duty Cleveland police officer fired a bullet into Smith’s head after Smith reportedly pointed a gun at the officer.
This incident happened over the weekend outside a gin mill called Wilbert’s on East Ninth Street.
Other emporiums that we came to know by name over the past weekend include Script’s Nite Club, NuWay, Big Boss and Lure Martini Lounge in Maple Heights.
At the center of all of these shootings was alcohol.
Anyone with common sense will tell you that booze and guns don’t mix very well.
Apparently, all of those involved in this past weekend’s escapades missed this little homily while growing up.
Greater Cleveland is seeing a surge in gun violence whether elected officials and law enforcement Pooh-Bahs want to admit it or not.
Over the past three weekends we’ve seen countless homicides and even more gunshot wounds.
This weekend, however, is a clear example of how drinking hooch while in the possession of deadly firearms is a huge “no no.”
Unfortunately, there will be those among us who fail to get the message.
For them the trip is in their future; either to the county morgue or the closet emergency room.
Some folks will just never learn as the body count and the hospital bills mount up.
