Everyday, police officers put their lives on the line.
The shooting of Randall Scott, Jr. by a Cleveland Police officer over the weekend needs a complete and thorough review of what transpired, when the son of prominent public servants was struck by gunfire on Parmalee Avenue, during an encounter with law enforcement officials.
By all accounts, the junior Scott was on a porch drinking beer with buddies when officers arrived on the scene. It is unclear as to when and how officers became aware of Scott’s gun at his waistband, of which he had a permit to carry.
It is also unclear as to what transpired after Scott raised his hands. Investigation into this matter should not be politicized, socialized or criminalized until all facts have been made.
Scott is the son of former Cleveland City Councilwoman Sabra Pierce Scott and Cleveland City Commissioner Randall Scott, Sr. – both prominent members of the Black community and dedicated public servants.
Until the facts are sorted out, we must not jump to conclusions on this sad state of affairs.
Everyday, police officers put their lives on the line.
Conversely, citizens are guaranteed due protection under the law.
We say, let this matter take its course.
We count on Cleveland Mayor Frank Jackson’s Division of Police to be thorough, honest and righteous.
