The U.S. Secretary of Education came to East Tech High School to encourage more community support of our school programs to “fill the gaps” left by school budgets and schedules.
The film, “Beats, Rhymes & Life: The Travels of A Tribe Called Quest,” kicked off a weekend of community education and live entertainment sponsored by Keepers of the Art, for the 4th Annual Akron Hip-Hop Showcase. Saturday included a free conference at the Quaker Square Inn titled: “Pop Culture and the Media- Its Impact on Urban Youth and Their Communities” keynoted by hip hop legend MC Lyte.

The young men made an impression on everybody who saw them and seeing the 30-foot granite statue of King made an impression on the young men, all part of the CTAG program.

The vision of I CAN SCHOOLS is to create a culture of high expectations for behavior and academics through a rigorous, research-based curriculum and a focus on achievement.

“Seeds to Success” teach the girls how to cope with problems and gain skills to be productive while addressing topics like etiquette and bullying among others.
Mayor Frank G. Jackson concurs with school board’s decision

Time Warner Cable recently presented a $2,000 check to students and instructors from the Open Doors Academy (ODA) at Wiley Middle School in University Heights.
