AKRON — E. Gordon Gee knows a thing or two about the Millennial Generation. As president of The Ohio State University, Gee oversees a student body of more than 65,000, many of whom were born between 1982 and 2000, the generally agreed upon range for Millennials.

Gee will bring his expertise to The University of Akron on Tuesday, April 24 to talk about “The Unique Qualities of the Millennial Generation” at the President’s Annual Forum on Inclusive Excellence. The luncheon, which is free and open to the public, will begin at 11:30 a.m. in the Student Union Ballroom.

“Too often people think of diversity in terms of Black and White, and maybe gender, but our UA model of Inclusive Excellence is broader in scope and acknowledges the differences of every individual,” said Lee Gill, UA associate vice president for inclusion and equity/chief diversity officer. “Whether those differences be generational, regional, veterans, disability, religious, etc., Dr. Gee’s presentation will move us forward to embrace and value all the multiplicities of our diverse society.”

Today, there are approximately 80 million Millennials. Although the generation is best known for being technologically savvy, Millennials also are the most tolerant and diverse generation in U.S. history, according to a Pew Research Center study.

“This generation will likely reconceive our nation’s own ethnic and cultural self-identity,” Gill explained.
