CLEVELAND – Dr. Janice Taylor Heard, assistant dean of Academic Affairs at Cuyahoga Community College (Tri-C), recently graduated from the HERS Bryn Mawr Summer Institute, held June 19-July 3 at Bryn Mawr College in Bryn Mawr, Pennsylvania. The Summer Institute, a 36-year partnership between Bryn Mawr College and Higher Education Resource Services (HERS), is the premier residential professional development program dedicated to advancing women leaders in higher education administration.
The 64 participants selected for this year’s Summer Institute represented 49 institutions from 24 states across the U.S. They included vice presidents; vice provosts; associate vice chancellors; deans; directors; and chairs of academic and administrative departments. The broad range of experiences across disciplines, sectors and positions offered a unique environment to evaluate critical issues confronting higher education today.
Heard, a Shaker Heights resident, has been at Tri-C since 2007, serving as assistant dean since July 2011. She was previously director of Counseling and Psychological Services at the Western Campus. Heard provided leadership for several campus and college-wide initiatives such as the Western Campus Safety Committee and the Title III Distance Learning Grant Online Orientation Committee. Her recent achievements include her board membership appointment for the Urban League of Greater Cleveland.
