Chairperson and Ward 6 Councilwoman Mamie J. Mitchell hopes to create a premier annual event that showcases the beauty, history and resources of Fairfax.
CLEVELAND– The Ward 6 Fairfax Arts & Heritage Celebration will honor the history and legacy of theFairfaxcommunity with an all-day celebration on Saturday, July 21, 2012 from 10 a.m. until 8 p.m. The celebration will take place in Ward 6 onEast 89th Streetfrom Carnegie toQuincy Avenue.
East 89th Streetfrom Carnegie to Cedar and Cedar toQuincywill be closed to thru traffic.
The mission of the Fairfax Arts & Heritage Celebration is to inspire a sense of community, educate residents about available resources, promote the area as a tourist destination, create collaboration between business owners, residents and other stakeholders and motivate citizen participation in the future growth of the neighborhood.
This free event will kickoff at 10 a.m. with a parade on East 83rd Street and Carnegie, home of the new PNC Fairfax Connection, to Quincy Avenue, led by Mayor Frank G. Jackson, Councilwoman Mamie J. Mitchell and representatives from partnering organizations – PNC, University Hospitals and Cleveland Clinic.
The event will culminate on the main stage at Karamu House, hosted by WZAK’s Robyn Simone along with Courtney G, with a live performance from R & B group ConFunkShun at 7 p.m.

The day will feature two stages of live entertainment from national and local talent such as Jessica Care Moore and CASH, live radio remote from 93.1 FM WZAK, Children’s Village, the NASA Journey to Tomorrow Exhibit Trailer, simulated helicopter rides, MetroParks Nature Tracks & Eco Explorer exhibits, Karamu House preview of The Color Purple, a Mobile Dental Unit, child safety finger casting, health screenings, American Legacy Mobile Unit, line dancing, food vendors, specialty booths and much more family fun!
