Breaking the barriers of rock ‘n’ roll was a challenge for Chuck Berry whose choice of instrument was unusual at the time. The electric guitar took a back seat to the piano as rock emerged into the lime light. It took Berry to bring the electric guitar center stage using song and stagecraft to entertain his audience.
Rising star Gerald Clayton to join Columbus Jazz Orchestra

Clayton, 28, has been hailed as a virtuoso pianist and composer. Down Beat Magazine’s 2008 Readers’ Poll named him one of the top up-and-coming pianists to watch. He has been honored with a Level 1 award by the National Foundation for the Advancement of the Arts (NFAA), the title “Presidential Scholar in the Arts,” and second place in the Thelonious Monk Institute Jazz Piano Competition.

Ms. Fabulosity herself was in the building at the historic Karamu House Saturday night during the opening weekend of the theater’s four-week run of “The Color Purple.” Dressed in one of the season’s hottest numbers – a navy, long-sleeved mini – she was quite the fashionista as she addressed the crowd during a reception before the performance.
