Dixon has been featured on television in the PBS “Great Performances” special “Cook, Dixon & Young.” His recordings include a top-selling Christmas album, “Follow That Star.” He also recently lent his voice to Chicago’s 2016 Olympic bid anthem, “I Will Stand.”
African-American tenor Rodrick Dixon will join the Cincinnati Pops Orchestra for “Classical Roots,” a concert celebrating African-American classical music and composers on Saturday, April 21, at 2 p.m. at Musical Hall, 1241 Elm Street in downtown Cincinnati.
In addition to performing on the program, Dixon is serving as the event’s creative chair. He has earned critical and popular acclaim in Cincinnati with performances at least season’s “Classical Roots” concert, appearances with the Cincinnati May Festival and Cincinnati Opera, as well as his “Hallelujah Broadway” performance with the Cincinnati Pops in August.
Dixon has performed with opera companies and symphonies around the country, including with Opera Columbus in the African-American opera “Vanqui” in 1998. In 2009, he made his debut with the Los Angeles Philharmonic as Oedipus Rex.
Dixon has also appeared in the Michigan Opera Theater’s and Todi Music Festival’s “La Fille du Regiment.” He portrayed the starring role in the Portland Opera’s “Les Contes d’Hoffman.” His Lyric Opera of Chicago Credits include appearances in “Don Quixote,” “Il Trovatore” and “La Boheme.”
