In the spirit of the World Choir Games, citizens are singing about Cincinnati and creating their own music videos.  One lucky group will win $1000 in the city-sponsored music video contest.

“We’ll announce the winners and award prize money in Council’s Strategic Growth Committee July 31 at 11 am,” says Chairperson and Councilmember Laure Quinlivan.

Citizens created their own renditions of the “Cincinnati’s Singing” music video produced by Quinlivan to promote the City.  It features Cincinnati celebrities who like the idea of promoting Cincinnati as ‘The City that Sings.’  Covington-based PPS Group donated production services and Quinlivan raised private funds to cover song rights to “Proud Mary,” other production expenses, and contest prize money.

Five contestants have entered videos.  The top prize is $1000 for Best Overall Video, $500 for Best Musical Performance, and $500 for Judge’s Favorite.

Local media celebrities are judging the entries this week, viewable at www.youtube.com/citythatsings through Friday, July 20.  You can also watch the “Cincinnati’s Singing” music video starring Bootsy Collins, Jerry Springer, Nick Lachey, Drew Lachey, Naked Cowboy, Comedian Gary Owen, and American Idol Finalist Eben Franckewitz.

The city music video is also being played pre-game by the Cincinnati Reds and on the big screens at Fountain Square and Washington Park (before movie night) by 3CDC.  Arts organizations playing the city music video at their venues include Cincinnati Opera and Cincinnati Pops.
