In celebration of 50 years in the business, Henry Stoudermire Sr. was honored by City ofClevelandand Ward 1 Councilman Terrell Pruitt with a street named after him.
Stoudermire is the CEO of McMullen Realty located at17017 Miles Ave.
Pruitt presented to Stoudermire with the street name right on the corner of where the business is located.Wyatt Streetis nowHenry Stoudermire Sr. Way.
During the ceremony, the corner overflowed with friends and family. Stoudermire fought back the tears of joy as they spoke about the good works he has done over the 50 years of selling homes.
“I am just one man making a difference for many,” said Stoudermire.
The event was held at the realty company. Food, games, and music filled the tents.
“My father has helped so many people over the years, both with jobs and owning a home,” said Henry Stoudermire Jr.
McMullan Realty, Inc. is a full-service real estate company founded in 1962. They specialize in personalized service, serving the Greater Cleveland area and surrounding the suburbs with many licensees of real estate. They are known to be the largest and oldest minority-owned real estate company in the state.
Stoudermire Sr. has been licensed since 1959. With over 50 years of real estate experience, he has a wealth of expertise. Stoudermire Jr., following in his father’s footsteps, is the company president. He has been selling real estate for over 20 years and guided everyone through the program for his father.
Stoudermire Sr. was born inAutaugaville,Alabamain 1936 and came toClevelandin 1953. He started atHighlandviewHospitalas a pathologist assistant for 2 years before going into the military in 1956. Then, working as a medic in the service helped him get employment atUniversityHospitalas orderly for 3 years once he returned.
In 1960, he got his salesman license under the brokerage of Ann Barber of Ann Barber Realty (still alive but elderly/sick) and became an agent then broker at Villa Realty. In 1968, he became a broker at McMullan Realty, Inc. and partnered with Howard B. McMullen.
Stoudermire Sr. worked very hard and in the 70’s became the Cleveland Realist president and chairman, Ohio Realist president and chairman, and National Association of Real Estate Brokers vice chairman.
He has helped thousands buy and sell houses. Some of his most notable achievements include helping to sell 152 new homes inOakwoodVillagein the 1970’s and training hundreds of licensees who stayed or became brokers and/or appraisers.
He helped many buyers in the 1960’s when access to real estate mortgages was not possible. He helped many inner city buyers and sellers move to the suburbs in the 1970’s though fair housing initiatives including the Cleveland Realists and now defunct Cuyahoga Plan of Greater Cleveland.
Stoudermire Sr. is still very active in the business. He does lectures and also finds time to mentor young people coming into the real estate field. He stresses the fact that everyone can be successful if they focus on their job and strive toward the end.
