You can have a great outfit, a beautiful face, but a hair cut makes all the difference. Did you know that a hair cut defines your face and can make you look ten years younger?
You can have a great outfit, a beautiful face, but a hair cut makes all the difference. Did you know that a hair cut defines your face and can make you look ten years younger? A great cut is the foundation of a hairstyle. We know that is enough to make you want to reinvent yourself! It is YBM’s mission to give you the best.
This week readers are in for a treat. We had the pleasure of sitting down with a lady who needs no introduction in the beauty industry. In fact we would like to call her the “God Mother” of the industry, her name is synonymous with what she does. Ladies and gentlemen, we bring to you Kim Thomas.
While sitting in Christopher Amira Salon and Spa, we were able to gleam from this icon as she talked about the beauty industry as a business, profession and the future of the industry. Kim Thomas is a mother, national educator, motivational speaker, salon owner, innovator as well as a duplicator. Can we all say “I wanna get like Kim”? At the age of ten, Kim had the desire to do hair. She decided to pursue her passion while attending South High School where she enrolled in cosmetology. She knew her goal early for the beauty industry, which was to be a “platform artist” for John Paul Mitchell Systems. After meeting her industry mentor Floyd Kenyatta, who was the global ambassador for John Paul Mitchell Systems at the time, she began assisting him and worked her way up to the top, becoming a national educator. Kim was recently chosen by John Paul Mitchell Systems to be one of five national texture tour trainers. This spring she will travel nationally on the educational tour.
Kim Thomas is the owner of Christopher Amira Salon and Spa located in Cleveland at Shaker Square. Kim sits on the State Board of Cosmetology. She is responsible for regulating all of the salons and cosmetology schools in the state of Ohio. Kim is a 2009 graduate of Emerging Entrepreneurs, which is sponsored by the Presidents Council. She was also recognized by “Who’s Who in Black Cleveland.”
Readers, what we appreciated about this interview was how Kim stressed the need to satisfy her customers, who she prefers to call her “guests.” She stated that a salon visit is more than just a quick 45-minute hairstyle and on to the next guest, but about the experience you receive when you walk into Christopher Amira Salon and Spa.
Kim stated that she loves the artistry side of the industry, however she enjoys the business side more. She is a firm believer in “when you keep score, you do more.” “Keeping track of our daily sales helps us plan for a better tomorrow,” she said. “We are currently working on our 2010 promotions.”
Kim also stressed surrounding yourself around like-minded people that can help bring your goals and dreams to reality. “Leaders are going somewhere and they convince others to go with them.”
As the New Year approaches we want our readers to look great so we asked Kim what some classic haircuts are. She answered, “bobs and layers. A great Bob will never go out of style as well as layers, which will always reinvent a look. A haircut would not be a haircut without customized hair color. Christopher Amira Salon and Spa, customizes hair color to their guests’ hair cut and skin color. They allow them to be a part of this experience at the ‘color bar.’ We understand that our guests love to know what is going on with their hair, so we tell them and show them.”
