CLEVELAND - The Cleveland Office of Minority Health will host a Minority Health Month Wellness Initiative in collaboration with a number of community organizations. This event will take place on Saturday, April 2, 2011 at the Cleveland Browns Stadium from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
The kickoff will begin with a wellness walk in the main concourse followed by health screenings, community vendors, live entertainment and presentations, all taking place in the Browns Town Area of the stadium. Participants will be offered free healthy snacks. The Office of Minority Health is encouraging attendees to form a group and join their six month free to be fit challenge.
“This event would focus on the benefits of utilizing the spaces where residents live, learn, work and play to support healthy food choices and physical activity as part of their everyday life. Collaboration is key to improve the health of our communities” said Yvonka Hall, Director Cleveland office of Minority Health.
April is Minority Heath Month. In 1989, the Ohio Commission on Minority Health developed the concept of a high-visibility campaign designed to focus on heath awareness and disease prevention. This 30-day campaign consists of numerous activities designed to solicit the interest and participation of minorities or providers of health services to minority populations.
The Cleveland Office of Minority Health will be hosting several events during Minority Health Month. For more information please call (216) 664-3052.
