New iPhone 5 released

Last week was another time many individuals stood in line to purchase the new iPhone 5. I have never understood how people spend the night in line for 2 days, waiting to be the first to purchase anything. But they felt they had to get this new shiny skinny updated model.

Now, I love my iPhone but will wait before thinking about upgrading to the 5 or 6 if they bring one out. I read where many stores ran out of the new phone due to the high demand of this product.

This phone is loaded with a few new features like video chat on 4G and face recognition and extreme downloading with 4G. I guess, with this phone, you will not be that person in the commercial who is laughing from his info on the phone and then minutes later everyone else laughs.

Having the 4G speed is something they will keep working to improve, I am sure. By spring, they will have a 5G and then a 6G, anything to make people run out and spend their money and brag about having an iPhone 5.

The starting price for this new phone is $199 with a two year contract. The new iPhone 5 is equipped with a dual core A6 chip processors, higher more powerful graphic chips that can deliver higher video resolutions (5-9 times better and 7 times faster) and amazing “still” images when taking pictures.

Now, I hear many of my friends say, ‘I am keeping my Blackberry. I don’t need all that extra stuff.’ You can hear people laughing when they see some people still pulling out flip phones and even the once famous Motorola Razor. I laugh back because, before I got an iPhone, I never had to worry about those unexpected dialing that happens with the touch screen.

The good thing about the iPhone is all the apps they have to accommodate you with everything in life. They have apps for drug stores, record stores, sports teams, The Tom Joyner Show, and many others. The one thing I dislike about the iPhone is not being able to change the battery. Your life span of the battery is not long and they seem to wear down quick.

Someone told me not to worry about it. The backyard mechanic can’t go under the hood of a Rolls Royce. I said, ‘If I owned a Rolls, I would not want a backyard mechanic working on it.’ My father always shared, if you drive a Benz, you better have Benz money to repair it if it breaks down.

“Demand for iPhone 5 has been incredible and we are working hard to get an iPhone 5 into the hands of every customer who wants one as quickly as possible,” said Tim Cook, Apple’s chief executive, in a statement early Monday.

What did we do before cell phones? Laughing. Well, I remember having quarters so I could run or drive up to a payphone back in the day. The problem was finding one that worked. I remember when they cost 10 cents before going up to a quarter.

Remember those first cell phones that were big as a walkie talkie with the rubber antenna? We laugh at that now but we thought we were somebody carrying them around when they replaced carry the beeper. Cell phones are changing as you read this column. They are thinking of something else it can do.

A product that was once made just to talk on now handles a lot of daily needs. You can get on the internet, take pictures, and text to name a few. Is it cool to be able to touch your screen versus typing on the keys of any other phones?

While reading another news publication, I found out that early orders and Friday’s sales surge provided already red-hot Apple shares. Apple climbed as high as $6.10 to $704.80 in early trading, flirting with its all-time record before fading. In after hours trading, Apple shares were up $1.39 to $700.10.

The demand for the new iPhone 5 has people selling their 4 and 4s models to be able to get the newest phone out now. You see them on Facebook and twitter saying if you are interested inbox me.

Have you ever had something to excite you that you would camp out to be first with it? I have seen people do it at a new Chick–Fil–A to get specials for the grand opening or when the new Playstation or Xbox come out. This craze is something the newer generation of people is into now.

While many of us are still figuring out how to get the best use of our current iPhone, the new group of users are moving on and playing with the iPhone 5. I wrote once before about our iPhone guru here at the paper. When any of us have a problem, we run straight to Becky.

Where people like my parents will say, “Son they all do the same thing. You can call and answer. That’s all I need.” I laugh at those comments, realizing they are telling the truth but it’s just something about being in the “in” crowd.

Just like wanting those new bell bottom pants or that dog collar shirt and those double breasted suits, we are driven to be hip and in style. I am sure everyone who stood in line to be the first to get this new phone has nothing special over anyone else who had it shipped or got it Saturday.

Maybe stores should take pictures of the first person each time and put it on a plaque so customers would know this person was the first in that store to get the new product.
