CLEVELAND – On Thursday, September 22 and Friday, September 23, 2011, Mayor Frank G. Jackson will welcome 600 business leaders, government officials, non-profit leaders, students and educators to his third Sustainable Cleveland 2019 (SC2019) summit at Cleveland Public Auditorium.
Mayor Jackson began Sustainable Cleveland 2019 two years ago as a way to involve the entire community in developing and implementing a 10-year economic development strategy to transform the local economy into a sustainable one by 2019. This third summit provides a venue for SC2019 to update the community on key local and regional accomplishments as well as accelerate the progress of current initiatives and influence public policy to support the growth of a sustainable economy in Cleveland.
This year’s theme is Energy Efficiency, and will provide a look ahead to 2012, the Year of Local Foods. On Thursday, keynote addresses will be offered by Nancy Sutley, Chair of the White House Council on Environmental Quality and Gil Sperling, a Senior Advisor for Policy and Programs at the U.S. Department of Energy. Opening remarks begin at 8:00 a.m.
