CLEVELAND - In an effort to reduce criminal activity in Cleveland neighborhoods, the city is reinstating Saturday hours at all Cleveland recreation centers, starting today.
Cleveland recreation centers had been closed on Saturdays due to budget cuts. Because of budget projections for 2012 that include an increase in income tax revenue, the centers will be back open on Saturdays from 9:30 a.m. until 6:00 p.m .
In a press release, Mayor Frank G. Jackson said "These centers strengthen our neighborhoods and enhance the quality of life for families, seniors, youngsters, individuals and groups who gather there to play, exercise, meet and relax at no cost. This move along with the recall of police officers will aid in the reduction of criminal activity in our neighborhoods."
