CLEVELAND - Crews are breaking ground this weekend on a new shopping center on Cleveland's east side that is expected to bring almost 100 new jobs to the Glenville neighborhood.

City leaders will take part in the ceremony Saturday at what will be "The Shops at Garrett Square," located at 11905 Superior Ave. -- the site of the Tops Supermarket that closed six years ago.

The shopping center will include a Save-A-Lot grocery store and the first Forman Mills store in Ohio. Forman Mills sells low-priced designer clothing, shoes and house wares. Both stores are expected to open in spring 2012 and employ a total of about 80 to 100 people.

Ward 9 Councilman Kevin Conwell said the recent cleanup efforts in the area have helped make this shopping center possible.

"Conditions for economic improvement in Glenville are here," said Conwell. "The resurfacing and streetscape improvements along Superior Avenue are giving the community a renewed sense of purpose. Many local businesses are making improvements to their storefronts as we improve conditions along Superior Avenue. And with the addition of shopping outlets and jobs at The Shops at Garrett Square, we can keep dollars and investment within Ward 9."
