Cleveland, Ohio - Fresh food and nutrition education are cropping up in the Kinsman neighborhood.  October 11th marks a new day for the Kinsman neighborhood with the grand opening of the Bridgeport Café and Cornucopia Place, 7201 Kinsman Road, serving as a solution to the "food desert" (lack of, or uneasy access to, fresh produce, and full-service supermarket within a low-income community) prevalent in this, and surrounding communities.

The grand opening will take place at 3:00 p.m.

Join us at 3:00 p.m. for a meet and greet, followed by the main program and ribbon-cutting ceremony. Scheduled special guests include City of Cleveland Mayor Frank Jackson and Ward 5 Councilwoman Phyllis Cleveland.

As Cleveland continues to make great strides towards living up to the moniker "The Comeback City," change and transformation must first occur in the smaller pockets that make up the area - namely, the individual neighborhoods.  For years the Kinsman neighborhood has suffered from blight and staggering level of poverty.  Building upon community development and physical development efforts, Burten, Bell, Carr Development, Inc. (BBC) presents Bridgeport Café and Cornucopia Place.

Bridgeport Cafe and Cornucopia Place will serve as an oasis for Kinsman and surrounding neighborhoods to benefit the city of Cleveland in a variety of ways: Providing fast, healthy food by way of a restaurant, small-scale indoor market and a mobile market; offering a training area for cooking classes and promoting health literacy for adults and youth; as a harvest preservation facility for local farmers and gardeners to prepare, package, and store locally grown food; and gathering space for year-round garden club meetings , community events, and available for rent to the public for eligible private functions.

By providing access to healthy and affordable food options, as well as training to create a culture of healthier eating habits, the Bridgeport Café and Cornucopia Place will provide a wide array of nutritional and educational opportunities.
