Ohio Gov. John Kasich has worked out a deal to get more money out of the developer building casinos in Cleveland and Cincinnati, clearing the way for construction to begin again on the $1 billion projects.

The Cleveland NAACP’s 52nd Freedom Fund Dinner will be held at the Renaissance Hotel in Downtown Cleveland, on Saturday, June 18, 2011. The event will begin at 6 p.m. The 2011 theme is NAACP: “Affirming America’s Promise.”

The current Cleveland Police Academy class will get to graduate after all. Amidst state-imposed layoffs an agreement was made and signed by the City ofCleveland and the Cleveland Police Patrolmen’s Association (CPPA) that will enable the 128th Cleveland Police Academy Class to graduate and to be sworn in on Friday, June 24, 2011.

“He was a giant among men, a voice in times of challenge,” said the Rev. C. Jay Matthews, pastor of Mount Sinai Baptist Church, where Jones’ funeral was held. His coffin was draped in a red, black and green flag, which also was proudly worn by many who attended the service in remembrance of the struggle in the 1960s when he was best known as a local activist.
