Jury selection is underway for the Wooster man described as a father figure to the woman he allegedly murdered.

Lonnie Brown, 48, was charged with the murder of Jamie Hout, 27, four months ago and soon after pleaded not guilty in Wayne County Common Pleas Court.

Hout was found dead in her McGill Street home in Orrville on May 5. The coroner's report indicated Hout died from blunt force trauma to her head.

Authorities arrested and charged Brown with aggravated murder and murder 11 days later.

Hout's obituary named Brown as "a father figure," but her biological father described him otherwise.

"I just hope they burn him, that’s all I got to say," said Rick Sims, who earlier told NewsChannel5 Brown even came up to him at the memorial service for his daughter on May 14 and shook his hand.

Opening statements in the Brown trial could begin later Monday afternoon after a jury is seated.

If Brown is convicted, he faces at least 15 years behind bars and up to life in prison without parole.
