His professional associations included active membership in the National Dental Association, The American Dental Association, Forest City Dental Society and The Cleveland Dental Society.
On Friday September 28, Dr. James G. Greene, quietly passed away at his home inBeachwood,Ohio, with his wife Lesora and son Jimmy at his bedside. He was 91 years old. James was born on February 2, 1921 inMoultrieGeorgia. He was the second child of the late General and Sarah (Sadie) Lemon Green. James was preceded in death by his sister Kathryn O’ Bryant of Newark, New Jersey, and his younger brother, Johnny Greene, ofWashingtonD.C. . James attended and graduated fromBarringerHigh School,Newark,New Jersey. Due to further family influences inSteubenville,Ohio, James enteredWilberforceCollegeinOhioin 1939 and graduated in 1943. He was a member of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity and the Army R.O.T.C.
While a member of the Army R.O.T.C. at Wilberforce, James enlisted in the U.S. Army. He served on several islands aroundNew Zealandand in the Pacific theater during World War II. He had attained the rank of Captain upon his final discharge in 1952. His brother, Johnny, also served in World War ll and was one of the famed Tuskegee Airmen. Johnny was awarded the Congressional Medal of Honor in 2007.
After the War, James used the G.I. Bill and spent a year atHowardUniversity. He enteredMeharryDentalSchoolinNashville,Tennesseein 1950. While inNashville, married for the first time, he was blessed with the birth of his son James Evans Greene.
He graduated with a Doctor of Dental Surgery (D.D.S.) degree from Meharry in 1954. He completed a one year General Practice Residency atJersey CityMedicalCenterinJersey City,New Jersey. Dr. James G. Greene relocated toCleveland,Ohio, in 1956 and began his private practice of Dentistry on the 140th block ofKinsman Rd.In 1960, James General met the love of his life, Lesora Wade Bell, inCleveland,Ohio. A second union for both of them, they married in 1964. From this union their lovely daughter, Kelli Louise Greene was born. He later collaborated with five other African American health professionals, now all deceased, and built the Medical Dental Arts building at14900 Kinsman Road. The building opened in 1968 under the management of the doctor’s corporation, Stradenmed Incorporated. Stradenmed was owned by Pediatricians Drs. Harold Ford, John Lewis, and Clifton Turner; Orthodontist, Dr. Mitchel Toney; Obstetrician-Gynecologist, Dr. Harold Kelly; and General Dentist Dr. James G. Greene. His son, James E. Greene, D.D.S., a 1977 graduate of the Howard University College of Dentistry, joined him in practice and in 1978 after relocating toClevelandwith his wife, Dr. Giesele Robinson Greene. James G. Greene D.D.S. and his son practiced together for 25 years, fulfilling a dream they had held jointly for many years. Dr. James G. Greene was well respected and loved by his patients, many of whom grew up, and grew old with him. James retired (finally) from Dentistry in the year 2000 at the age of 79.
His professional associations included active membership in the National Dental Association, The American Dental Association, Forest City Dental Society and The Cleveland Dental Society. One of James’s favorite activities was his membership in the Royal Vagabond Club, Incorporated. James was a 30 plus year member of the Royal Vagabonds. Dr. Greene was the beloved husband of Lesora, and the loving father of Dr. James E. (Giesele) Greene and the grandfather of Julie, Jason, Johnathan Jennifer and Jasmine. A viewing will be held on Wednesday at 9:30 a.m., until 6:45 p.m., at the E.F. Boyd & Son Funeral Home at25900 Emery Road,Warrensville Heights,Ohio.
His funeral services will be held Thursday October 4, 2012, at 12:00 p.m., at Mt. Zion Congregational United Church of Christ Church located at10723 Magnolia Drive, where the family will receive friends at 11:a.m.,
