Warrensville Heights teen dies after fight

Violence comes in all forms. Recently, it has been more gun violence then any other violence. But Shaakira Dorsey, 16, ofWarrensville Heights, died last Wednesday night at theAhujaMedicalCenterin Beachwood after she got into a fight with the suspect in the 4700 block ofWalford Road. Police said Dorsey collapsed around 8 p.m.

A 16-year-old girl is charged with murder. The name of the suspect has not been released because of her age. This tragic incident has affected everyone in theWarrensville Heightsarea.

A group of adults was present during the incident with Shaakira Dorsey. They watched the two teens go after Dorsey who supposedly teased the other girl for passing gas, according to a few witnesses who did not want to be labeled a snitch.

Dorsey’s stepfather eventually stopped the brawl. She collapsed and was rushed to a local hospital where she died.

The police released the 911 tapes where two calls came in, one for the fight, another for an ambulance. “We need anEMSon4769 Walford Roadfor apartment nine. She tumbled down. She’s breathing really hard,” said the caller.

A statement onWarrensville HeightsSchool District’s website said, “Warrensville HeightsCitySchool Districtis deeply saddened by the loss of a member of our student family, Shaakira Dorsey, who passed away on Wednesday evening. Shaakira was an eleventh grade student at the High School and a member of the Lady Tigers Softball Team.

We will follow our established procedures for this type of crisis. The Grief Counseling Team will be available in the High School throughout the remainder of the week and next week as well.

At this time, we are respecting her family’s privacy and ask that you keep them in your thoughts and prayers.”

 A statement from Dorsey’s family said, “Words cannot express how much we thank you for the expressions of sympathy and all the help you provided us during our moment of sorrow. We are truly grateful for your friendship and support. Sorry for those we have not reached out to, your expressions of sympathy have not gone unnoticed.”

On Wednesday, Oct. 10, 2012, a candle light visual will be held atWarrensville HeightsHigh School, starting at 5:30 p.m.  

Public viewing for family and friends will begin Thursday, Oct. 11, 2012 at E.F. Boyd funeral home,25900 Emery Roadand funeral services for Shaakira Marche Dorsey at will be on Friday, Oct. 12, 2012 at 2ndMt.CarmelChurch,5713 Kinsman Rd.

The wake will be at 10 a.m. and service will begin at 11 a.m.

In lieu of flowers, please send all contributions to any Huntington bank in the Shaakira Dorsey memorial fund.

As of press time, the Cuyahoga County Medical Examiner had not yet released the cause of death for Dorsey.
