Hurricane Irene hasn't made it to the Mid-Atlantic region yet, but the Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial dedication slated for Sunday has been postponed.

The Category 3 hurricane has been predicted to hit the D.C. region late Saturday and early Sunday morning.

President Obama and as many as 250,000 people were to attend the dedication. The event will be rescheduled for September or October.

Harry Johnson, president of the MLK memorial project, said he was disappointed that he had to postpone the dedication.

"I remained optimistic all day, but Mother Nature is Mother Nature," he said, according to the AP. "I'm very disappointed and hurt, really. We all are."
