New Website Shows How Bad Cuts Hurt Local Communities
COLUMBUS – State Rep. Tracy Maxwell Heard (D- Columbus) highlighted the new website http://www.cutshurtohio.com/" href="http://www.cutshurtohio.com/">www.cutshurtohio.com as a tool to see the effects of historically deep budget cuts to Franklin County and statewide.
“Our communities, schools, and local governments face an ever-growing financial crisis as a result of historically deep budget cuts that have placed an even greater responsibility on local property tax payers. Gov. Kasich and Republican legislators cut $149 million from education and $133 million from our local government’s right here in Franklin County,” said Rep. Heard. “This website shows just how bad our communities are hurting.”
Gov. Kasich’s budget (HB 153), cuts more than $2 billion from schools and local communities, while handing out a $100 million dollar tax break to investors, ignoring over $7 billion in tax loopholes, giving tax cuts to the wealthiest among us, and was $5.1 billion larger than the previous operating budget. Specifically, $1.3 billion was cut from state aide to schools and property tax replacement funding, $460 million was cut from the Local Governments Fund, and $620 million was slashed from the local governments property tax replacement funding. http://www.cutshurtohio.com/" href="http://www.cutshurtohio.com/">Cutshurtohio.com was launched last week, and shows the cuts to education and local governments for each county in the state, for more information on how cuts were calculated please visit the website.
