Bishop Speaks Week of 3-28-2012

new_bishop_speaks_headerLast week I experienced at a Funeral Service an offering taken up because the family did not have enough money to pay the cost and I really didn't care for it at all. Taking up the offering caught many people off guard who did not bring a check book, or had much money on them.

Bishop Speaks

Having your say and having your way, pre-plan!

Bishop:

After reading your Bishop Speaks column last week while sitting and waiting for my hair to be done, I cried so hard that I had to quickly run into the rest room.

My father was just buried and reading your column made, me after everything is now over, take time and write you.

I have three other sisters and one brother, all of us over thirty years old and our father laid in the funeral home for twenty nine days before my income check arrived. I paid for the entire funeral service. My father died from drinking so much, and him and his children never got along. My father, at fifty nine years-old, never had a Life Insurance Policy and even when told what the drinking was doing to his body, he [still] didn’t get a policy.

When he died, I thought everyone would at least come together and we would all put our money together, since that was our father, but that was not the case. All of them cried broke and told me I should let whatever happens just happen to him. I'm still angry at them that even at death they would not come together and just do the right thing. After all he did bring us into this world, even if he was not the best father. My mother left him years ago and re-married and she didn't even try and assist me.

Bishop, I had a full Funeral Service for my father and everyone showed up but never till this day offered to help me pay the funeral cost.

I don't wish this on anyone and I say to everybody to please handle your business and get a Life Insurance Policy and not leave it up to your love ones to do it after you die.

Bishop Moultry:

I just wanted to say, "THANKS" so much for opening my eyes in regards to pre-planning. When it comes to death I never wanted to talk about it, but now with three kids all under fifteen years-old, I've come to realize from reading your columns how important it is to not leave love ones in a bad situation if a parent or parents should die an untimely death. I'm in the best of health, work out at the gym Mon through Friday and feeling great, but I even feel better that if something should happen to me the cost of my home and all of my children will be covered. I now have peace of mind Bishop.

Thanks.

Bishop Moultry:

Last week I experienced at a Funeral Service an offering taken up because the family did not have enough money to pay the cost and I really didn't care for it at all. Taking up the offering caught many people off guard who did not bring a check book, or had much money on them. I also think that the minister who asked for us to assist the family by giving could have worded his asking better. His exact words were, "This family needs help to pay for the cost of the Funeral, so please show your love by digging deep in your pockets." My wife said when the minister said dig deep she thought of the graveyard where the body would be going. When I got in the car with my wife I asked her if we had a Life Insurance Policy ‘cause I never want that to happen at my funeral.

Just wanted to share this with you bishop!
