Williams Temple Church of God in Christ recently held a church event that bonded jazz with gospel. They featured one ofCleveland’s premier jazz group Hubb’s Groove.
“It’s a blessing to be back in the church where my mother sang for many years,” said Robert Hubbard. His mother sang back during the RF Williams singers and, if you knew them back then, they could really sing.
This was the brainchild of Gloria Sawyer, who wanted to do something special for her church. “I am glad everyone loved it,” she said.
“This was such a great event. I am looking forward to it being an annual event,” said Pastor Dr. Gerald L. Gray Sr.
William’sTemplehas been on the move since Gray arrived at the church.
The Mission of Williams Temple Church of God in Christ is to share the good news of the gospel of Jesus Christ and His redeeming sacrifice for all people and to provide an environment that introduces all people to our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
Upon noticing a connection between the spirituality of the church and of jazz improvisation, they held the first jazz service at Williams Temple Church of God in Christ. At this point, Gray was inspired to focus this work on the lives and problems of the community and offer they come back and play outside to minister to lost souls.
