The last couple of weeks the Cleveland Browns has tried to bring back the old name of the Kardiac Kids playing games down to the finals seconds. Sunday was no different where they pulled of the win against Jacksonville Jaguars 140 to 10 at the Cleveland Stadium.
The Browns fought hard and in the end hung on to beat the Jaguars. The defeat was inches away, as Jacksonville drove to the Browns 1-yard-line with eight seconds left. The drive, set up by a field goal officials said was no good but kicker Phil Dawson complained on the field went over the upright, ended with two incomplete passes in the end zone.
One appeared to be an easy score, but Jason Hill dropped the ball. Joe Haden said he knocked it out, but the ball was in Hill’s stomach and it fell to the ground. On fourth down, the Jags threw to Mike Thomas but Blaine Gabbert’s throw was behind Thomas and sailed incomplete.
When that happened, the Browns stormed off the bench, jumped in each other’s arms and jumped into the stands. This was the first win for the Browns since Oct. 23. Jacksonville had two chances after Jones-Drew got to the 1 with 13 seconds left. But the Jaguars had chosen not to use their last timeout after the previous play, another run. That decision let 15 seconds run off the clock, and cost the Jags another play.
On second down, Gabbert threw to the sideline to Jason Hill, who had a chance to go after the ball and make the catch. Hill beat Haden, but instead of going after the ball he let it come to his stomach. It hit him in the chest, and Haden was able to reach as he fell and knock the ball loose.
Running back Chris Ogbonnaya recorded his first career 100-yard rushing performance as he totaled 115 yards on 21 carries, including his first career touchdown. He rushed for 98 yards in the second half, including a career-long rush of 40 yards.
His one-yard score in the second quarter was the Browns’ first rushing touchdown since running back Peyton Hillis recorded two at Indianapolis on September 18. It was the first 100-yard rushing performance by a Brown since Hillis recorded 108 at Buffalo on December 12, 2010.
Wide receiver Joshua Cribbs recorded three receptions for 20 yards and one touchdown. He has three receiving touchdowns in the last four games. He has set career highs this season with 28 receptions, 258 receiving yards and four receiving touchdowns.
Cribbs is the first Brown with at least four touchdown receptions in a season since 2007 when Braylon Edwards (16) and Kellen Winslow (5) accomplished it.
Rookie wide receiver Greg Little recorded a team-leading five receptions for 59 yards. He leads the team this season with 42 receptions and 438 receiving yards. Little leads all NFL rookies in receptions this season.
Defensive back Joe Haden recorded three pass defenses. He now has a team-leading 16 on the season after entering the game third in the NFL with 13. He has six pass breakups in the last two games and has three games this season with at least three pass breakups.
Quarterback Colt McCoy completed 17 of 24 passes for 199 yards with one touchdown, one interception and a 92.2 rating. Over the last two games, McCoy has completed 37 of 51 passes.
