Cincinnati State has dismissed Ron Harris as head coach of its women’s basketball team.

The action was taken by athletic director Theresa Check and President O’dell M. Owens following a national tournament game last week in East Peoria, Ill. During that game Mr. Harris repeatedly directed verbal outbursts at referees, tournament officials and spectators, and during the game was involved in a confrontation with a spectator who was holding a child.

“This type of behavior will not be tolerated at this institution,’’ Dr. Owens said.

Harris was named interim coach of the Cincinnati State women’s basketball team at the start of the 2011-12 season after Cincinnati State athletic director Theresa Check stepped down as head coach.  He had previously served as an assistant coach on the women’s team.
