Oklahoma State assistant Lamont Evans, Auburn assistant Chuck Person, Emanuel "Book" Richardson of Arizona and USC assistant Tony Bland have been are accused of receiving benefits in "excess of $10,000 under a Federal program involving a grant, contract, subsidy, loan, guarantee, insurance and other form of Federal Assistance." Evans, Richardson, and Bland face a combined 11 charges, including conspiracy to commit honest services fraud, wire fraud conspiracy and travel act conspiracy. Autho

Wade on the way for another title run

The reigning Eastern Conference champion Cleveland Cavaliers held their media day this week and the best news to come out of it was LeBron James still plans on ending his career wearing the Wine and Gold. However, just as we were going to print LeBron’s close friend Dwayne Wade was nearing a deal to join the Cavs after his buyout from the Chicago Bulls and that would certainly make the Cavs prohibitive favorites to repeat as conference champions. LeBron alone would make any team championship caliber, but you add to the mix former MVP Derrick Rose, Isaiah Thomas and Jae Crowder from the Kid Kyrie trade, holdovers Kevin Love, Tristan Thompson, JR Smith, Iman Shumpert, Kyle Korver and off seaso

Catch 22: Indians rally, win AL-record 22nd straight game

CLEVELAND (AP) -- The Cleveland Indians added a walk-off win to a streak that has had everything. Jay Bruce hit an RBI double in the 10th inning as the Indians rallied for their 22nd straight win to extend their AL record, beating the Kansas City Royals 3-2 on Thursday night to move within four wins of matching the 1916 New York Giants for the longest streak in major league history. After blowouts, shutouts and oh-so-easy wins, the Indians went into extras for the first time to keep the longest streak in 101 years intact. Ramirez led off the 10th with a hard hit into right-center off Brandon Maurer (2-2) that he turned into a double with a head-first slide. After Edwin Encarnacion walked, Br

Blackjack!!: Indians set AL record with 21st straight win

CLEVELAND (AP) -- The Cleveland Indians won their 21st straight game on Wednesday, 5-3 over the Detroit Tigers, to set a AL winning-streak record and join only two other teams in the past 101 years to win that many consecutive games. Jay Bruce hit a three-run homer off Buck Farmer (4-3) and Mike Clevinger (10-5) won his fourth straight start as the Indians matched the 1935 Chicago Cubs for the second-longest streak since 1900. The run has put Cleveland within five wins of catching the 1916 New York Giants, who won 26 straight without a loss but whose century-old mark includes a tie. The Indians haven't lost in 20 days, and they've rarely been challenged during a late-season run. However, the

Incumbent Frank Jackson easily advances to general election

Cleveland Mayor Frank Jackson faced a crowded field eight challengers in Tuesday’s primary and it appears that an unprecedented fourth 4-year term is still in the cards as Jackson easily advanced to the November 7 General Election. As we went to print more than 50 percent of the votes had been counted and Jackson had more than 8,000 of them, doubling the totals of his two closest opponents Councilmen Zack Reed and Jeff Johnson. Reed held a slim margin of 3,018-2,415 over Johnson and none of the remaining candidates appear to have any remote possibility of a runoff with Jackson. In what was yet another traditionally low voter turn-out, the mayor’s race was the big ticket on the primary ballot

(AP Photo/Adam Hunger) NEW YORK (AP) -- Sloane Stephens' remarkably rapid rise from a ranking of 957th in early August to U.S. Open champion on Saturday began with the slow work of coming back from surgery on her left foot. After being off tour for 11 months because of her injury, Stephens easily beat her close friend Madison Keys 6-3, 6-0 in the first Grand Slam final for both, becoming only the second unseeded woman to win the tournament in the Open era, which began

Maple Heights Mayor Annette Blackwell Honors Michael Simens as Business of Year

Maple Heights, OH—For the first time in this city’s history, a local business was honored in Maple Heights, OH as business of the year. Mayor Annette M. Blackwell made the announcement at the September 6 city council meeting to recognize Mr. Chicken and CEO, Michael Simens, for his personal commitment to the community and his generosity his restaurant has served with donations of food, time and money to Maple Heights. Since joining his father’s business in 1989, Simens has never forgotten the lessons he learned from his grandfather who started Mr. Chicken in 1968. The lessons centered on kindness to everyone and a commitment to be part of the community and help out wherever you can. “Mike ex

Let’s see if Kid Kyrie can win one…on his own

The deal is finally “officially” complete and Cavs No. 1 pick Kyrie Irving got his wish to be traded away from LeBron James to rival Boston for Isaiah Thomas, Jae Crowder, Ante Zizic, the 2018 1st round pick the Celtics acquired via Brooklyn, and Miami's 2020 2nd round pick. A debate as to which team got the better of the deal can be deferred to the conclusion the 2017-18 season and beyond, but clearly the Cleveland Cavaliers made the absolute right decision to rid themselves of Kid Kyrie in advance of 2017 training camp. Kid Kyrie is the current day Kobe Bryant, a brilliantly gifted offensive basketball player who can score at will on anyone, but I beg to differ that he is a foundational p
