Veteran news media director and public relations officer to the world’s greatest boxing promoter Don King, has died. Weneck, 70, lost a long bout with cancer that he fought rigorously and bravely until his final days.

“He kept on working like he wasn’t going to die. He did more work dying, than a man would do living. He was the promoter’s promoter, in other words he was promoting me,” said King regarding his publicist.

Weneck’s contributions to the field of public relations during nearly four decades were enormous.

Throughout the course of his career, he has been a consultant and publicist for the White House, major corporations, celebrities, doctors, sports figures, television networks and politicians, working with celebrities such as Walter Cronkite, Gerald Ford, King, and David Brinkley, just to name a few.

Weneck’s valuable contribution to the field of public relations earned him the honor of Florida Businessman of the Year.

King boasted that Weneck was like Cyrano de Bergerac (a fictional character), a cadet (nobleman serving as a soldier) in the French Army, who was a brash, strong-willed man of many talents. Like de Bergerac, Weneck had many remarkable talents, was gifted and joyful.
