Rev. Caviness appointed as the National Treasurer of SCLC

The 58th National Convention of the Southern Christian Leadership Conference held its annual convention last week in Atlanta, Georgia. SCLC was founded by Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King and several other Southern Ministers in 1957 with the express purpose to better coordinate civil rights protests and activities across the South. Dr. Charles Steele, Jr. is the current President of SCLC.

The theme of the Convention was “The Poor Peoples Campaign-The Dream Unfulfilled ,” which is a call to action now while recognizing the rich history of the organization past. SCLC continues to be a formidable force and advocacy organization for the least, the lost and the left out in our society. The Convention was filled with National Speakers, Renowned Gospel Artists like Rev. Charles Jenkins, Senior Pastor of Fellowship Baptist Church in Chicago, Illinois, Leaders from the Church Community, Community Activist and Elected Officials.

Rev. Dr. E. T. Caviness, Senior Pastor of Greater Abyssinia Baptist Church, was appointed as the National Treasurer of The Southern Christian Leadership Conference (SCLC) during their Annual National Convention last week. Dr. Caviness has been fighting for Civil Rights for more than 50 years. He worked side by side with Dr. Martin Luther King during the sixties. This newly appointed position demonstrates Dr. Caviness’ continued leadership role both nationally and locally in the Civil Rights Movement. “We are pleased to have someone of Rev. Dr. E.T. Caviness caliber and wisdom as our National Treasurer.:” said Dr. Charles Steele National President of SCLC. Rev. Dr. E.T.
