FirstEnergy CEO Chuck Jones fueled to diversify

Chuck Jones

AKRON,OH- The President and Chief Executive Officer of First Energy sits atop one of the most successful companies in America, but he is as approachable as your next door neighbor.

Chuck Jones desires to be on a first name basis with the millions of customers that First Energy serves, because he cares about their most basic concern.

During a private meeting with the Call & Post at his headquarters in Akron recently, he briefly expressed his desire to meet the ongoing needs of the African American community in every aspect.

“When the ministers called for me to meet with them, I went because I wanted to hear their concerns and I have a responsibility to fix what is wrong,” he said.

Jones was not always at the top of the most powerful energy provider in Northeast Ohio.

He had to work his way up from the lower ranks of the company, which is why he believes empowering young people with an opportunity to work for the company affords them the same opportunity that was afforded him many years ago.

“I believe that if we want to make things right within this company we have to look within and that is on me. There are some things that we need to take a hard look at and correct.”

Jones became president and CEO on Jan. 1, 2015, before that he served as executive vice president and president of FirstEnergy Utilities from 2014 to 2015 and senior vice president and president of FirstEnergy Utilities from 2010 to 2011, and also served as president of the Company's utility subsidiaries from 2010 to 2015. He was also senior vice president of the Company's utility subsidiaries from 2009 to 2010. He also serves as a director of many other subsidiaries of the Company, including FirstEnergy Solutions Corp. Director of the Company since January 2015.

So, although Jones has his hands full with an incredible work load, he firmly believes in putting the customer and their family first in every aspect and you don’t have to take my word for it…he’s aims to continue to prove it.
