RG3 Cut By Browns

BEREA, Ohio--The Cleveland Browns acquired Brock Osweiler yesterday and released Robert Griffin III today

In one paragraph, the RG3 era is over in Cleveland as the team sent a press release out.

The Browns have terminated the contract of QB Robert Griffin III.

Griffin joined the Browns last offseason and started five games in 2016. He completed 87 of 147 passes for 886 yards with two touchdowns and three interceptions. He added 190 rushing yards and two scores.

The Browns saved $750,000 immediately as they were due to pay Griffin a roster bonus on Saturday if he was still on the roster.

This does not come as a surprise and likely has little to do with Osweiler's acquisition.

Instead, the Browns get about $8 million in cap space, Griffin gets to move on with his career and the team can focused on other options at quarterback.

For Hue Jackson, this is a quick turn after "feeling the earth move" while watching Griffin workout for them.

The Browns still have a huge amount of cap space and a need to address the position. Most expect a QB with a high draft pick, likely #12 or #33, and a veteran but don't be surprised if Cody Kessler and that high draft pick are joined by Joshua Dobbs in the QB room.

The roar that was RG3's Training Camp with the Browns has gone out with a whimper.

Are you surprised the Browns cut RG3 already?
