Beyond the cold and windy conditions, Solon Lady Comets and Berea-Midpark Titans won the Maralyn H. West 2017 Invitational at Collinwood.
Always the first outdoor track meet of the season is usually cold and windy, however, that did not stop most of the runners and field competitors.
Euclid Lady Panthers’ junior speedster Caisja Chandler did not miss a beat. She helped the Panthers to pick up 40 points. Chandler won the 100 (12.28) and the 200 (26.35) and she anchored the winning 4x100 and 4x200 teams. The Lady Panthers finished fourth with 74 points.
The Lady Comets toppled everyone with 130 points. Olivia Howell and Jane Sensibaugh were the Comets’ double-first place winners. Howell, sophomore, won the 800 (2:27.25) and 1600 (5:25.76). She also anchored the third place 4x800 team. Sensibaugh, senior, won the shot put with a record throw of 42-6. She also had a record throw in the discus at 150-11, which she beat her own record last year’s event.
GlenOak was a close second with 125.50. Berea-Midpark was third with 105.50.
In the boys, the Titans toppled with 97 and the Comets finished second with 89.
Brian West picked up 38 points of the Glenville’s 63. West, a junior, won the 100 (11.20), 200 (22.90) and he anchored the winning 4x100 team.
Senior Charles Cahloun helped Shaker Heights finished eighth with 59 points. Cahloun anchored the winning 4x400 by fighting off the Titans’ Adam Wade. Cahloun finished second in the 300 hurdles (41.48) just .04 seconds from winner Garrett White (41.44). Cahloun also finished third in the long jump.
