Who goofed ? I’ve got to know

As the hometown Cleveland Browns continue to sink deeper into the abyss and the Cincinnati Bengals climb out of the jungle, the Kansas City Chiefs are soaring to an undefeated 5-0 record with a local kid both franchises ignored.

Kareem Hunt played in 12 games as a true freshman at Toledo and rushed for 866 yards on 137 carries with six touchdowns.

By the time he was a sophomore he rushed for 1,631 yards on 205 carries with 16 touchdowns. Hunt was the MVP of the 2015 GoDaddy Bowl victory over Arkansas State after rushing for 271 yards and five touchdowns, which tied Barry Sanders for an NCAA record.

He would continue to impress throughout his four year collegiate career with a 200 yard rushing game against Western Michigan which was ranked No. 14 in 2016 and by the time he was finished  had accumulated 4.945 yards on 782 carries and 44 touchdowns with a 6.3 yards per carry average. The yardage total shattered Chester Taylor's school record, and was third all time in the MAC.

The Browns selected  defensive tackle Larry Ogunjobi from Charlotte in the third round of the 2017 NFL draft and the Bengals picked defensive end Jordan Wills from Kansas State, both of whom have been rather obscure through the first five games.

In the meanwhile, the kid from Willoughby, Ohio was resembling a poor man’s Jim Brown, torching the Patriots in week one with 148 yards and through five games is the top running back in the league with games of 81 in week two, 172 in week three and 101 and 101 in four and five respectively.

How did both the Browns and Bengals miss on the Toledo Rocket?

Even more insulting, the Browns decided to pass on Deshuan Watson, who has Houston primed for a playoff run.

The knock on Hunt in the draft was that he did not accelerate after being hit on runs and that his modest 4.6 40 time was not fast enough. Perhaps they frowned on the fact that he had all that mileage on him in college.

Kansas City traded up to No. 86 to get him and what a find he has become for the Chiefs.

The Browns and Bengals will see a lot more of Kareem Hunt when they are watching him carry the Chiefs towards the Super Bowl.
