Free Minority Men’s Health Fair Nears

The renowned Cleveland Clinic Dr. Charles Modlin, one of the leading kidney transplant surgeons in the state, and head of the Clinic’s Minority Health Center, underscored how vital it is for African American youth and men to attend the 17th Annual Minority Men’s Health Fair Thursday, April 11 from 5:30p.m.-8:30 p.m. at the Main Campus (9500 Euclid Ave.); Lutheran Hospital; Cleveland Clinic, Lorain and at Cleveland Clinic Akron General.

Dr. Modlin made the emphasis as a guest of the Interdenominational Church Ushers Association participating in the Greater Abyssinia Baptist Church’s Joint Usher Ministries’ Anniversary.

“This is a completely free health fair that includes a number of health screenings and health- related information,” Dr. Modlin began from Greater Abyssinia’s pulpit.

“Too many African American men have health risks that they may not even be aware of. That’s one of the main reasons I launched the health fair.”

As a living example of his point, Dr. Modlin brought along patient Jerome Davis who shared his personal story of finding out he had cancer during a screening at a previous health fair. “By God’s Grace, began Davis, “It was diagnosed in time, I’ve been treated and am doing well.”

To put a further stamp on the health fair’s vital importance, Pastor Rev., Dr. E.T. Caviness added: “Every African American man in this city ought to attend this critically important health fair. It just might save your life.”
