An Explosive Opening to Week 1

Week 1 of a very exciting high school football season has come and gone. Euclid edge Glenville, Solon toppled Hudson and Beachwood getting past rival Orange is some of the many explosive games.

On Thursday, the opening night Mentor rallied to get past to beat St. Edward 29-28. Lima Senior and Lima Central Catholic had probably the best game of that night. Lima Senior Spartans beat the Thunderbirds 49-45.

On Friday, Euclid and Glenville got it going at Collinwood. Euclid led at the half, 20-0, and held on to beat the Tarblooders 29-24.

Beachwood and Orange have a good rivalry going. This time the Bison will have some bragging rights as they edge the Lions 27-25.

Solon Comets got past Hudson 46-41.

On Saturday, St. Ignatius beat Loyola Academy 27-10. Holy Name blanked Cleveland Central Catholic 38-0.

What will week 2 bring?

On Friday, No. 10 Glenville or No.15 Cleveland Heights, one will get their first victory of the season. Glenville lost to No. 6 Euclid 29-24. While the Tigers lost 21-10 to Medina.

Shaker Heights (1-0) at No. 7 Benedictine (1-0) – Shaker Heights and Benedictine had impressive victories last week. Shaker Heights’ talented wide receiver Dakota Cochran will be a handful for the Bengals.

No. 4 St. Ignatius (1-0) at No. 1 Mentor (1-0) – When these two teams hook up, it has always been a classic. In their last 18 meetings, both teams have won nine games. However, the Cardinals have won the last two.
