PHILADELPHIA (AP) -- His own legacy on the line, President Barack Obama implored Americans to elect Hillary Clinton to the White House, casting her as a candidate who believes in the optimism that powers the nation's democracy and warning against the "deeply pessimistic vision" of Republican Donald Trump. "America is already great. America is already strong," he declared to cheering delegates Wednesday night at the Democratic convention. "And I promise you, our strength, our greatness, does not depend on Donald Trump." For Democrats, the night was steeped in symbolism, the passing of the baton from a barrier-breaking president to a candidate trying to make history herself. It culminated with

Evelyn King Dubois May 24, 1929 - July 24, 2016

The Lord giveth and the Lord taketh away. Blessed be the name of the Lord. My dearly beloved sister Evelyn has passed away. She was a wonderful, beautiful and loving sister, mother and grandmother who died on Sunday, July 24th, exactly two months after her 87th birthday. Her house on earth is vacated but her beautiful spirit lives on…her spirit will never die for it lives on in each and every person that she touched. Her loving brother, Don King

Indians needs to make a trade

The judge is in and the verdict reads "The Indians needs a trade". After being swept in a three-game series against the Baltimore Orioles, the all of the sudden light-hitting and light-scoring Cleveland Indians needs some extra lumber in their line-up. The trade deadline is August 1. The Indians (56-41), who still holds the lead in the American League Central by six games over the Detroit Tigers, batted .226 and was .192 with runners in scoring position. The Orioles, the leaders in the American League East, had pitchers like Dylan Bundy. The 23-year-old baffled the Tribe in their first outing 5-1. He went five innings and the bullpen did the rest. In Saturday's game, Kevin Gausman handcuffed

Cleveland Express Track Club wins

Cleveland Express Track Club established itself as a youth track & field nonprofit organization in 2008. Formally members of the Cleveland Heights Rebels, Cleveland Express became an independent organization when the Rebels head coach Claude Holland in his retirement discontinued the AAU portion of the Rebels Track Club. Recognizing a need for such programs in the Greater Cleveland Area, Cleveland Express Track Club was formed with a five member volunteer board of directors and three volunteer coaches who specialize in field, sprinting, and distance with head coach Curtis Jackson. The team is currently coached by Robert McNair, Stan Jackson, Greg Perryman, Art Pulphus and Oliver Hairston. Cl

City recognizes 100th anniversary of Garrett A. Morgan’s historic rescue

Sandra Morgan, granddaughter of Garrett A. Morgan, accepts an award from Cleveland Water Commissioner Alex Margevicius. One hundred years ago, on July 24th, a powerful gas explosion occurred in Crib #5, a tunnel at the Cleveland Waterworks Department on W. 45th Street. Due to the use of an insufficient gas mask, initial rescue efforts failed to point that a Cleveland Police urged authorities to contact Garrett A. Morgan, an inventor, of the Cleveland National Safety Device Company of Cleveland. As Case Western Reserve University’s Dr. John Grabowski so elegantly told the story - during an event “Commemorating the 100th anniversary of a Historic Rescue by Garrett A. Morgan” this past Monday a

Safe RNC boost Cleveland’s new world image

Cleveland Mayor Frank Jackson said of the Republican National Convention, "It really puts us in a different light with a different image." Cleveland's safe and successful turn as host of the Republican National Convention has helped establish it as an ideal location for large events but also a city that people will consider when deciding where to live and do business, Cleveland Mayor Frank Jackson said last Friday. "It really puts us in a different light with a different image," the mayor said at a news briefing. Police reported a total of 24 arrests during the four-day convention that ended Thursday night, a surprisingly low number that can be attributed to a massive police presence and to

The Great American Divide

As one national political convention concludes and another is about to begin, America continues to be under siege by a rage of fatal terror involving police and African Americans. It is a dilemma that not even the brightest scholars, the highest ranking elected officials and the most devout clergy can understand or explain. The withering emotional pain has ripped the hearts from families, eroding the bond of communities and a schism wider than the Pacific Ocean has divided America between Black and Blue. Fresh on the heels of the fatal police shootings in Baton Rouge and Minnesota and the sniper assault against five Dallas Police, attacks against law enforcement has been rampant from Georgia

Don King has last word on Priebus

Weeks before the Republican National Convention kicked off in Cleveland, presumptive GOP Presidential nominee Donald J. Trump asked his longtime friend Don King to speak at the event. For several months King has been promoting the urgency of a new system form of government in a series of articles that Trump was impressed by. Trump’s request of King gathered national steam, and media request flooded the RNC and the Call & Post Newspaper. As the momentum continued to build and King began preparing his speech for the occasion, behind the scenes Trump was embroiled in a confrontation with RNC Chair Reince Priebus over his selection of King as a speaker. The billionaire businessman candidate obvi

Cavaliers Legend Nate Thurmond dies

Here is a statement on behalf of the entire Cavs organization from Cavs Director of Alumni Relations and Nate's teammate and friend, Campy Russell: "We are very saddened by the loss of Nate Thurmond. Nate’s jersey hangs in the rafters at The Q because of the unselfish way the Akron native and Hall of Famer approached the game we all love, the teammate that he was, his profound impact on one of the most special seasons in Cavaliers history, and the way that all translated on and off the court to reflect the 'All for One. One for All.' code. Just as Nate always held the Miracle team, the Coliseum crowds and his local roots dear to him, the Cavaliers franchise will always love and respect him a

LeBron James, Cleveland Cavaliers clean up at ESPYS

LeBron James was named the best male athlete, the best NBA player and also was awarded the ESPY for best championship performance for helping to navigate the Cavaliers to the franchise's first title. One year after losing in six games to the Golden State Warriors in the 2014-15 Finals, James led the Cavaliers to an unprecedented comeback from a 3-1 series deficit against those same Warriors, as Cleveland ended the city's 52-year championship drought. In doing so, James became the first player to lead a full playoff series in points, rebounds, assists, steals and blocks. His efforts won him a unanimous Finals MVP, too. The Cavs were also named the best team and, after already making a few app

LOS ANGELES (AP) -- LeBron James won five trophies, including best male athlete and best NBA player, at the ESPY Awards on Wednesday night when frivolity gave way to a James-led call to end gun violence and racial profiling. The show honoring the year's best athletes and sports moments opened on a somber note, with James and fellow NBA stars Carmelo Anthony, Chris Paul and Dwyane Wade standing four abreast on stage addressing the recent shootings of blacks by white police officers. "The urgency to create change is at an all-time high," Anthony said. Paul, the nephew of a police officer, recited the names of several men who have been fatally shot. Wade urged a stop to racial profiling, a shoo

Columbus, Ohio Holds Black Lives Matter Unity Walk

America has been through a rough July, with a number of innocent men being murdered in cold blood by the cops. After the deaths of Alton Sterling in Baton Rouge and Philando Castile in Minnesota, the big debate of Black Lives vs Blue Lives have once again blown up. Without hesitation, a lot of people have sided with Blue Lives once again, not understanding that Blue Lives are a choice. People choose to be cops, you cannot choose to be Black, nor can you hide the fact that you are Black. You can however, hide the fact you are a cop. On June 6th, 2016 Henry Green, 23, was senselessly shot by two cops in Columbus, Ohio. Green was walking with a friend in South Linden when an unmarked white van
